Pre-Election Findings

Pre-Election Findings

Archive of reports produced during the 2002 campaign season.

Between August and November, 2002, PoliticalWeb.Info posted weekly reports on campaign sites as they developed.

A summary report  provides an overview of findings on the frequency with which over fifty structural, feature and content elements we identified were apparent on federal campaign sites in the final month of the 2002 election season, and suggests implications of these frequencies for enabling political action.

A working paper elaborates these findings in the context of a broader inquiry on the structure for political action engendered by campaign Web sites.

Weekly reports on four topics issued during the campaign presented our preliminary view of the campaign Web sphere.

The Campaign Web Sphere Analysis is based on an assessment of candidate web sites collected for the Election 2002 Web Archive. Sites in the archive are available on the Web at the Library of Congress Minerva Project, in collaboration with WebArchivist.org and the Internet Archive, with additional funding from the Pew Charitable Trusts through the Center for Communication and Civic Engagement at the University of Washington.

This project was conducted under the direction of Professors Kirsten Foot of the University of Washington, and Steve Schneider of the SUNY Institute of Technology.
